The reason the Danish government wants to block these sites, is that in Denmark we have a government owned bookmaker, "Danske Spil".
Danske Spil has a monopoly on "gambling", and other bookmakers aren't allowed to open stores and such in Denmark.

So the clever minds in our government, has followed how things has evolved on the internet, and has come to the conclusion, that these sites offering "games" to Danish inhabitans, should not be able to do so.
In addition they are per time of the blocking, also going in collaboration with Partygamning, making an online pokersite or something like that. I also read something that they've later realised that they only have the right to block the sites marketing towards Danish people(where their sites exists in the Danish language).

As of 1. January 2011, The Danish government will allow online casinos to buy a gaming appropriation, but not for all games, Danske Spil will have monopoly on games such as Bingo, Lotto, Keno and scratchgames.

On a site note, one of the other reasons for this, was supposedly to protect Danish people, from foreign bookmakers. Protect :S...

So this is all very sucky. I think many danes thought we had a good government, but this monopoly has got to go.

PS: Sorry for my poor English, I'm not very clear minded at the moment.

Basically it will be the same for France, all french accounts on stars will be closed and players will have to reopen on the "licenced" french stars (only for french players) when it opens. It was supposed to happen around june although I haven't heard from it recently. Italy already did it, and last I heard both germany and netherlands were considering similar laws.

Gambling licences are huge profit for governments in Europe and they don't want to lose their share of it.

Fyi. The idea of blocking online pokersites in Denmark has been postponed:

(It's in Danish. Sorry :-) )

You still need an external (to the banned country) identity to register your account and cashout.

No you dont, you only have to change your adress, sites won't look further then that, Denmark decides to bann, not the site itself, so I cant imagine they will do extra effort to check your name / birth date / social security number to make sure your not from Denmark. Sites dont check the adress you registered at paypal/neteller/moneybookers, they only see the email adress.

What I have seen so far, indicated a simple block at DNS level. Just like e.g. thepiratebay is blocked in Denmark as well.
Using a non-danish DNS instead of the default one provided by the ISP easily circumvents that "block".

Any way.. Nothing will happen until 2011...

In any case. As I understand it. It's only a problem for sites without a EU license. Which I try to avoid as that also has some taxation issues..

Of course with a proper ligislation they will do such checks. It's much easier to audit sites when local ligislation exists. Actually many sites do these chcks already, regardless of legislation.
