Hi,

I found at one site the old poki source (which is almost all their classes without the actual Player) but it has hand potential code, probability triples, weighting tables according to the probable hands of the other players etc.

Is anyone familiar with this?

Combining this code with the pdf's explaining the actual poki from the alberta site, how difficult is it to construct the actual poki?

Just curious because lots of people are trying to build their bots when there is a winning (according to their pdf the bot was winning consistently on irc poker tables for years) bot around?

any thought appreciated

Two reasons:
1) People only played for fun when they played IRC poker against the bot.
2) It was before the poker boom and all games where softer than they are today.

I think at least a couple of people have tried to use Poki in live games. Since it was written in java it could "easily" be decompiled.

I don't think it (at least the old Poki) would beat anything else than the lowest games.

There have been many advances to the Poki AI since that source code was released. The Poki bots you see in PA Pro 2+ have been developed much further.

hmmm I don't thing you can decompile a complex monster like this software.
Nevertheless, in IRC there have been players who are WPT champions that played against the bot.
I don't think the games were so loose and fun.

As for the second post:
Poki has public pdf with it's construction. The base classes are there also. The tweaking has changed from the old source yes.
But about 10 Msc's and PHD's working on this subject for years are better than any of us alone I think.

Anyway thanks for answering

Poki evolved after this source code was published. And this poki is quite "old". The bots developed by UofA in the last years are all beating poki.

I believe a significant amount, if not all, of the original Poki source base comes with Fell Omen and with Uofa poker server code. These should be found easily via google. Some of the code is actually still available at Aaron's Uofa website, you just need to use some website download client that doesn't auto-relocate on the web server's request (ie. wget).

We have that (as well as other "lost" source codes) in the FTP in level1.
